Ever-Ripe

How do I let it ripen until it’s done? Do I believe I should be like Ever-Ripe, the new, genetically modified produce by Dole? Should I have a wax-based coating, preventing me from ever going bad? Can I be treated with an anti-microbial wash? What happens to the produce that is genetically modified? To the berries and fruits made larger than life, but lacking in flavor? Nice to look at, but not to eat. Simulacrum; cheap emulations of the real thing. Damned attempts at overcoming the reality of God. Let me be a small berry, the kind picked from a field that while not enough for a bite, is more than enough for ecstasy.
